Avoiding Information Spoil

Most of us are asking for the latest how to's. We think that missing the latest information would be responsible for our failure in the future. It is the 21st century anyway; information is power.

While information is helpful, oftentimes, scattered information would only lead to confusion. It will keep us out of focus. Have you found yourself cramming for a final examination? You compress the semester's lesson in a two-hour review and feel a little dizzy. That is the effect mishandling of information.

It is also observable in the big organizations. Let us take International Rice Research Institute for example. There was a time when they had so many information at hand that it was nearly impossible for them to compile their files in order and make use of them. And so, they sought external help just to fix the problem.

In this times where terabyte storage is very common, the ironic thing is we cannot get enough of information and/or data. The usual tendency is to hoard and discourage trashing. This causes tyranny of choices. Because we are faced with so many options, making a choice becomes a mental torture for us.

The reality is there is still no surplus of information. We still have a lot more to discover. There is still a lot to know. It is just that we should make sense of what we have. It is essential to find which is common among the scattered information that we have. Find a pattern in the chaotic organization of information.

When we put a food on our plate, we make sure that we can chomp all what's placed in it. The same approach should  be used in information. Everytime we get an information, make sure that you use it. Make sure that there are no leftovers.
